Russ. Govt. OKs a 5-year privatization program of 900 companies

In the next five years, the Russian Government intends to privatize 900 Russian enterprises and receive 1.8 trillion rubles, Igor Shuvalov, First Vice-Premier told journalists after a meeting chaired by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, which approved the program.

"Estimated revenues from the privatization could be about 1.8 trillion rubles with the full implementation of the program,"  RIA Novosti quoted Mr. Shuvalov as saying. The official said the program of the Government of Russia would be submitted to Russian President Dmitri Medvedev for approval.

"The government has taken a final decision (on privatization), but we can only start working if the Russian President finalizes, by adopting appropriate decrees on privatization of these assets, since most companies are strategic ones," Igor Shuvalov said.

In particular, he said, the government will sell up to 50% minus one share of the shipping company Sovcomflot in 2011-2013, and by 2015, the state may sell a majority stake in the company.

"In 2011 we will be able to offer 25% of Sovkomflot. In 2012-13 - 25% minus one share. Thus, in 2011-2013 we will offer up to 50% minus one share, " the official said.
