CMA CGM will launch direct service to Vietnam from northern Europe on Nov. 9, deploying the largest container ships to serve the Asian nation.
The French ocean carrier joins a growing number of lines serving Vietnam as it has become a significant manufacturing center in the last two years. Hanjin Shipping started direct calls at Vung Tau, Vietnam, by its NE5 service from Asia to Europe on Oct. 17.
The French carrier said Friday its FAL3 service will begin direct calls at the deepwater port of Cai Mep, which serves the port of Ho Chi Minh City, on the westbound leg with its string of 10 vessels, each with a capacity ranging from 8,500- to 9,500 20-foot equivalent units.
CMA CGM said the call will enable it to support the business growth of its clients in the Vietnamese market. Besides the local market, CMA CGM will also cover the secondary ports of Haiphong, Danang and Qui Nhon through dedicated feeders.
"We are particularly proud to be the first to deploy large vessels calling directly at Cai Mep," said Nicolas Sartini, CMA CGM's senior vice president Asia-Europe lines.
The rotation of the 70-day service is: Qingdao, Ningbo, Chiwan, Nansha, Yantian, Cai Mep, Port Kelang, Malta, Le Havre, Dunkirk, Zeebrugge, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, Southampton, Beirut, Jeddah, Port Kelang and back to Qingdao.
