FSI Rostransmodernizatsiya of Russian Ministry of Transport may announce, in late October - early November of this year, a bidding for contract for the design of a new deepwater port complex in Taman (Krasnodar Territory) with projected annual throughput of over 65 million of dry and liquid bulk cargoes, the PortNews correspondent reports citing Rosmorport’s CEO Igor Rusu who was speaking today at a briefing in St. Petersburg.

According to Mr. Rusu Rosmorport still intends to take part in the bidding. “Rosmorport has obtained the necessary licenses to carry out the project activities. Today we are in talks with several leading foreign design institutes on creation of a consortium, to participate the tender," Igor Rusu was quoted as saying.

Rosmorport official pointed out that the port of Taman should be the most modern port in Russia.

Igor Rusu explained that the new port is likely to be located on the Taman peninsula between Cape Panageya and Tuzla spit. The Taman cargo terminals currently under construction (Togliatti Azot, TamanNeftegas and Food Ingredients) would be outside the new port.

According to Rusu, the Federal Agency of Maritime and River Transport of Russian Ministry of Transport has held a meeting recently to consider the best site for construction of the new port project in Taman.

Igor Rusu said that a week ago, large oil companies Bashneft, Tatneft, Rosneft announced they would willing to participate in building terminals in the new port complex in Taman.

As previously reported, SUEK coal company is a potential investor in the construction of a coal terminal at the port of Taman. The Taman port project includes construction of terminals for handling grain, metals, containers and fertilizer.

Mr. Rusu also said the tender winner might be announced by the end of 2010.
