Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore to set aside S$1m to improve bunkering operations

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) will set aside S$1m to improve the quality and safety of bunkering operations in Singapore.
MPA said the amount, set aside from the Maritime Innovation & Technology Fund, would support research into mass flow metering.
MPA, along with SPRING Singapore and key industry stakeholders, is in the Singapore Working Group on Mass Flow Metering.
The group said it would share findings from industry trials on a national standard on the application of mass flow metering, at the 16th Singapore International Bunkering Conference and Exhibition (SIBCON).
MPA said such effort would enhance the quality of bunkering operations in Singapore and ensure the Port of Singapore remains the world's top bunkering port.
The SIBCON, organised by the MPA, would be held from Oct 28 to 30 at Resorts World Sentosa.
More than 1,100 delegates from 50 countries will discuss topics including environmental impacts of shipping and bunkering, and take part in a joint oil spill exercise demonstration.
The results of the dialogue will allow marine fuel industry leaders to assess the adoption of cleaner alternatives to current marine fuels in the near future.
