Two merchant ships seized by Somalia pirates
Two merchant vessels were pirated in the Indian Ocean and in the Gulf of Aden, EU NAVFOR press releases said.
The product tanker MV Samho Jewelry was seized on January 15 about 350 nm South East of the port of Muscat, Oman. The bulk carrier MV Eagle was attacked and pirated on 17 January 490 nm South Ewst of Salaam, Oman.
The 19,609-ton Maltese-flagged, Norwegian-owned MV Samho Jewelry with a crew of 21 was transporting chemicals.
The 52,163dwt Cypriot-flagged, Greek-owned MV Eagle with a crew of 24 Filipinos was en route from Aqabar (Jordan) to Paradip (India).
There has been no contact with the ships since the attacks.
According to EU NAVFOR there are now 29 vessels and 693 hostages being held by pirates off the coast of Somalia.
