Caribbean shipowners to rise bunker surcharge
The six members of the Caribbean Shipowners Association will hike their bunker surcharge on containerized cargo as of Feb. 27, Journal of Commerce reports.
The CSA members said Monday they will increase their surcharges $60 on 20-foot equivalent units, $120 on 40-foot equivalent units, and $135 on containers more than 40-feet long.
The new bunker surcharges come hard on the heels of announcements by the CSA of a series of general rate increases through the year, starting Feb. 2.
The six carriers -- Bernuth, CMA CGM, Crowley, Seaboard Marine, Seafreight Line and Zim Integrated Shipping Services -- will apply the surcharge on all import and export cargo moving north and south between the U.S. and the following Caribbean destinations: Anguilla, Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saba, St. Barths, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent, Trinidad, Jamaica, Guyana and Suriname.
