Jarwo Suryanto, president director of Pelindo III, told a parliamentary hearing that in 2010, as many as 53 foreign cruise liners arrived in Bali, where half of them docked at Benoa port.
'That's why we want to develop the port by renovating its terminal to bring it up to international standards,' Mr Suryanto said.
He added that synergy between state-owned enterprises in needed to attain the goal.
'We will cooperate with the toll road operator of Jasa Marga and the airport operator of Angkasa Pura, among several, to build access to the provincial capital city of Denpasar and Nusa Dua, one of the tourism destinations,' he said.
Mr Suryanto also unveiled the company's financial performance in 2010. 'Last year, we booked a declining net profit of 514 billion rupiah (S$72 million), down from 527 billion rupiah,' he said, without elaborating on the cause of the lower net profit.
However, he said, the company's income increased to 2.76 trillion rupiah in 2010 from 2.5 trillion rupiah in 2009.
