In the reporting period Liquid bulk volume dropped 5.3% to 55,419,200 tons, bulk cargo - by 20% to 11,807,000 tons, general cargo - by 4.3% to 10,564,600 tons, NCSP said.
Despite the overall decline the strongest operating result was demonstrated in the segment of containers. Boxes throughput leaped by two times to 471,400 TEUs (vs 234,800 TEUs a year earlier). Container volume handled by Baltic Stevedoring Company soared by 250.6% to 168,800 TEUs. Container shipments at the terminal of Novoroslesexport boosted by 122.9% to 187,200 TEUs.
NCSP showed strong results in handling bulk fertilizer (+23%), sugar (+30.9%), timber (+14.3%), nonferrous metals (+28.8%) and perishable goods (+32.1%).
According to NCSP, the most negative impact on trade flows volume was a 5.5-percent drop in crude oil shipment via pipeline on the south direction, to 42,061,300 tons, and the Russian grain exports ban effective from August 2010, which has caused the loss of 3,315,200 tons of cargo. Excluding these two factors, the annual freight flows handled by NCSP increased by 2.5% in 2010, says the company press-service.
