Maersk Line UK & Ireland gets new chief

A new boss took over at the Liverpool-based Maersk Line UK yesterday, part of the world’s biggest container shipping group.
Brian Godsafe became Maersk Line UK & Ireland managing director, replacing Annemette Jepsen, who has returned to Denmark.
Ms Jepsen has joined Unifeeder, Europe’s biggest container feeder network, as chief operating officer.
Mr Godsafe has worked for more than 29 years in the shipping industry and has been in Maersk UK’s senior management team the last nine years.
He became Maersk Line UK & Ireland customer service director in 2008.
Parent company A P Moller-Maersk this week posted its best net profit ever of £3.2bn for 2010, against its worst ever loss of £620m in 2009.
Mr Godsafe, who is based at The Plaza, Old Hall Street, said: “Maersk Line has seen a huge amount of change in the last 12 months.
“The team here in Liverpool and across the UK have worked exceptionally hard and done an excellent job to contribute to this success.
“Despite the excellent profits, last year was extremely challenging as we lost market share and we will be working hard to regain this.
“We have increased our competitiveness by reducing unit cost by 4%, our reliability is top of the industry, but we are working to raise it still higher.
"Last year taught us a great deal, but I firmly believe that we are a company that can continue to flourish and grow – the year ahead looks exciting.”
Maersk also this week announced a $1.9bn order for 10 of the biggest ships ever built and an option for 20 more.
