Baltic Coal Terminal’s throughput doubles in Jan-Sept to 3.4m tons

Coal shipments from Ventspils-based Baltic Coal Terminal in January-October soared by two times from a year earlier, to 3,408,904 tons, the stevedoring company said.

In October, handling of coal at the terminal rose by 1.7 times, to 321,230 tons.

Baltic Coal Terminal is a JV of two companies: CJSC MPO Kuzbass and Ventspils Commercial Sea Port. In 2010, coal throughput of the terminal amounted to about 2 million tons. Currently, the coal handled at the BCT’s terminal is exported largely to the UK, Belgium, Spain and Morocco.  The terminal’s indoor warehouse allows simultaneous storage of 210,000 tons of coal, (capacity - 6 m t/y). The two companies have invested in the first phase of the terminal EUR 80 million.
