Residents of Eisk in Krasnodar Territory reported a gas cloud in the town, which moved from the oil terminal, located in Yeysk seaport, local environmentalists said.
According to the North Caucasus Environmental Watch, the concentrated gas cloud has passed through the entire town.
Some students from a nearby school were evacuated. A strong smell of gas was felt downtown. People complained they felt unwell and suffered waves of nausea.
The authorities have started investigation into the case. However there is no official information available as yet. According to the local gas service, that was not household gas.
Some sources said the incident could have been caused by loading of fuel oil to a tanker at the port. The gas allegedly leaked from tanks of the products carrier, which were not cleaned from the remnants of previous cargo.
