Putin's visit to Severodvinsk yields newbuilds contracts for domestic shipyards

Several shipbuilding contracts were signed today in Severodvinsk in the presence of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, the Russian government press office reports.

The newbuilds contracts were signed between Russian Defense Ministry, United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), Design Bureau “Rubin” and St. Petersburg-based Naval Bureau of Machine Building "Malachite". The contracts include the designing of nuclear-powered submarines of Project 885 M, Project 955 A,  Project 885 M, the construction of rescue ship of Project 21 300; an option for the repair of nuclear-powered submarine "Novomoskovsk", a contract for development of the technical design of heavy nuclear missile cruiser of Project 1144.2, other warships, the construction and commissioning of a fixed offshore ice resistant drilling platform Number 1 on the field of Vladimir Filanovsky, other offshore facilities.

The Defense Ministry’s contracts are valued at RUB 280 billion (7 defense contracts, and 2 civilian orders, including for strategic nuclear submarines of Yasen and Borei class).
