Newcastle Port asks miners to cut back production

Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) has requested that coal miners cut sales this quarter as the Hunter Valley Coal Chain struggles.PWCS has reportedly asked miners for a voluntary reduction of 760 000 tonnes between now and the end of the year, according to The Newcastle Herald.
The request to ask miners to cut their orders was due to weather delays between June and September.
The move mirrors those made last year, as the HVCC suffered serious log jams and ships waiting in queue numbered around 50.
Figures from the HVCC have predicted numbers to reach 47 by the end of the month, with an average 12 days to load.
In October, ship numbers reportedly reached 54, with 38 ships waiting at anchor outside the port.
Planned maintenance played a part in these higher than average numbers.
