Yuri Sukhorukov was elected as Chairman of the Seafarers’ Union of Russia (SUR) by delegates of the 7th Congress of the Union, PortNews correspondent reported.
Yuri Sukhorukov won getting 59 votes versus 47 cast for the Union’s former chairman Igor Pavlov.
Yuri Sukhorukov, was the Union’s former deputy chairman heading PR Department and was in charge technical inspection and international talks of SUR.
The first meeting of the new board chaired by Yuri Sukhorukov will be held tomorrow November 24.
The Seafarers’ Union of Russia was established on November 25, 1991 in St. Petersburg by seafarers of largest Russian shipping companies. The highest governing body is the Congress of Seafarers Union convened every five years.
