SCADA International receives GL RC certificate for power plant controller
GL Renewables Certification (GL RC) has issued a component certificate to SCADA International for its power plant controller. The GL RC certificate confirms that the power plant controller meets the requirements of the FGW (Federation of German Windpower and other Renewable Energies). The certificate is the first issued to a power plant controller based on an assessment of compliance with FGW guidelines, the GL-Group press release said.
Mike Woebbeking, Head of Certification Body GL RC and Tobias Gehlhaar, GL RC Expert for Grid Code Compliance presented the component certificate to SCADA International, at Husum WindEnergy 2012. “The certificate provides evidence that the device has passed the tests and assessments relating to the medium voltage regulations and other corresponding grid codes. This will give SCADA International customers greater confidence and security to provide its clients with an advanced level of security when they are planning new installations,” explains Woebbeking. A real evidence of grid code compliance can now be issued for each wind farm in Germany and world wide, using this certificate in combination with a Project Certificate (GCC) according to GL’s Technical Note 065 on grid code compliance together with any local grid code.
Power plant controllers manage the electrical power output of a generation facility concerning both, active power and reactive power. The aim of this is to control the amount of power being passed into the electrical grid by the generation units, other power plant controllers or similar units, based on the needs of the power system operator. For this the power plant controller operates each component up to maximum possible production in view of grid availability.
The FGW is developing criteria for power plant controller standardisation. Corresponding certiication will be mandatory in 2014 according to Revision 6 of the FGW’s Technical Guidelines Part 8 for the certification of electrical characteristics (FGW-TR8).
