Yantar Shipyard based in Kaliningrad (part of United Shipbuilding Corporation) slated for October 12 a keel-laying ceremony for the fourth vessel in series of six guided missile frigates of Project 11356 (Krivak-V class) for the Russian Navy. The ship is reported to be named "Admiral Butakov." The keel-laying plaque will be attached to the pre-fabricated bottom section during a solemn ceremony, the shipbuilder’s press service said.
In 2010, Yantar Shipyard and the Russian Ministry of Defense signed two contracts for six frigates of Project 11356, designed by Northern Design Bureau. Three ships of the series: Admiral Grigorovich, Admiral Essen, and Admiral Makarov had been laid down and the lead ship will be launched in October 2012.
Kaliningrad-based Baltic Shipyard “Yantar” (Amber) was founded on July 8,1945 on the basis of a Koenigsberg unit of German’s Schichau Werft. Yantar Shipyard specializes in building and repairs of warships and civil boats. Throughout the years the Shipyard has built 154 warships and more than 500 merchant vessels. The Russian Government holds majority stake in the shipbuilding firm through Western Center of Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation.
