Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) launched the fifth and sixth Fast Patrol Vessels (FPV s ) being built for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on 29 th November 2013, the company said in its press release. The vessel bearing the yard Hull No. BY 50 5 was launched by Mrs . Rukmani Ravikumar Roddam , wife of Sri. Ravikumar Roddam , Director (Finance) and Hull No. BY506 was launched by Dr. (Mrs.) Suchetha Vinayakumar, wife of Shri P Vinayakumar, Director (Technical) in the presence of Mrs. Hema Subramaniam, wife of Commodore K. Subramaniam, C&MD, Directors and other senior Officials of CSL and Indian Coast Guard .
The vessels were named ACHOOK and AGRIM in the ceremony . The vessel s are the fifth and sixth in the series of 20 numbers FPVs contracted by CSL for the ICG . The contract was signed in 2010 with the delivery of the last vessel in 2017. The first two vessels in the series have already been delivered to the Indian Coast Guard. The vessels are being built under the dual classification requirements of ABS and IRS. These 50 metre x 7.6 metre x 4.65 metre vessels have a design speed of 33 knots. The primary role of the vessel include fisheries protection and monitoring, patrol within exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and coastal patrol, antismuggling, search and rescue operations and for anti piracy operations. The vessels have a secondary role of providing communication link & escort convoys during hostilities and war time.
