RF Transport Ministry concerned about reluctance of Russian Black Sea ship owners to invest in new fleet

RF Transport Ministry is concerned about the passive position of private business engaged in shipping at Russian Black Sea ports as regards investments into passenger fleet. This opinion was expressed yesterday at the meeting of the Presidium of Marine Board under RF Government (Chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin) by Victor Olersky, Deputy Transport Minister of the Russian Federation. «There are no regional ship owners interested in local transportation», he said.

He also reminded that 7 new port points had been opened along the Black Sea coast between Adler and Lazarevskoye. They are intended for passenger vessels with Lazarevskoye-Sochi line to be the most popular (some 300,000 passenger in navigation of 2013).

According to Victor Olersky, FSUE Rosmorport had to acquire two passenger catamarans to serve this line as private business express no will to work there. “Rosmorport is involved in non-profile business”, he added.

However, the official reminded about positive initiatives of private business in this sector: «Private company Intercontinental Marine plans to launch a round-the-year Black Sea service».
