Ports of Stockholm's container terminal sets new record in November 2013

Ports of Stockholm's container business continues to do well, with volumes rising steeply during the year. So much so that a new record was set in November 2013 for the number of containers handled at the terminal, 45 000, Ports of Stockholm said in its press release.

“We are pleased and proud to have had such a very successful year at the container terminal at Frihamnen,” says Henrik Widerståhl, Deputy Managing Director at Ports of Stockholm. “Some of the world's leading international trans-ocean shipping companies and Europe's foremost feeder shipping companies have elected to ship their freight via our container terminal,” he explains.

The previous record was set in 2007, with 44 623 TEUs. Now the trend has turned decisively and container volumes are constantly rising. By the end of 2013 volumes will have exceeded 50 000 TEUs.

“We have three strong factors for success; our professional personnel who contribute to the terminal being highly efficient, our good collaboration with Hutchison Port Holdings, the world's leading terminal operator, and our competitive location in the centre of Stockholm, Sweden's largest consumer market,” states Henrik Widerståhl.

Five different shipping companies, MSC, CMA-CGM, Team Lines, Unifeeder and SCA Logistics, currently operate vessel services to the Ports of Stockholm container terminal.
