Maersk may acquire Italy-based Eni's North Sea oilfields

Danish shipping and oil group A.P. Moller-Maersk said on Monday it was interested in potential acquisitions, but declined to say if it was looking at Italy-based Eni's North Sea oilfields.
The Sunday Times said at the weekend that the Italian oil company planned to put its North Sea assets up for sale and had hired Rothschild to sell them for more than $1 billion. "We are always interested in potential acquisition opportunities but we cannot comment on specific licences put up for sale in order not to influence potential negotiations," a Maersk spokesman told Reuters on Monday.
The Sunday Times said in its unsourced story that the Eni assets for sale had oil output of 20,000 barrels a day and total reserves of 120 million barrels.
Eni declined to comment on the story.
According to Eni's corporate website, its UK daily production from the North Sea, the Irish Sea and North and East of the Shetland Islands in 2007 amounted to 124,000 barrels while Norwegian assets in the Barents Sea, the Norwegian Sea and the North Sea have daily output of 137,000 barrels.
