Grain shipments of North-Western Shipping Company up 25% to 1.5 mln t in Jan-Nov’13

In January-November 2013, North-Western Shipping Company transported 1.5 mln t of grain (+25%, year-on-year), the company announced. 

In November, NWSC completed implementation of contracts on transportation of grain from seaports of Azov-Black Sea Basin with further transshipment to sea-going vessels.

The volume of grain transshipped by NWSC under contracts in July-November 2013 totaled 600,000 t including 465,000 t carried by NWSC vessels (up 2.5 times year-on-year).  

Mostly, lighterage was performed by 10 Rusich vessels with cargo capacity of 5,000 t.  

In 2014, the company is going to boost grain transshipment with the deployment of vessels with different capacity and draught including new vessels of project RSD49 with deadweight exceeding 7,000 t.

North-Western Shipping Company is the largest carrier in Russia’s water transport system, specializing in shipping import / export general cargo, bulk and loose dry cargo, tugging of oversized cargo and vessels. The company’s fleet comprises about 100 cargo ships of total DWT 360,000 tonnes, including 85 mixed-sailing "river-sea” vessels, 6 barges, 7 tugs and 3 auxiliary ships. The NWS Company transports 6 million tonnes of different cargo a year.

The Company is a member of VBTH, a shipping division of UCL Holding (majority owner of VBTH), consolidating also a number of Russian rail, stevedoring and logistics assets. The division also includes Volga and Western Company, several cruise and shipbuilding companies.
