Chinese container cargo accounts for 22% of RF Baltic Basin’s total container throughput, TELS Group says

Chinese container cargoes account for 22% of total container turnover at the terminals of Saint-Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, says TELS, trans-European group of transport companies >>>>.

According to the company analysts, container flow to the Russian Federation via the North West region makes 50% of the total international container flow to Russia. 

In the 7-month period, total container throughput of Saint-Petersburg and the Leningrad Region exceeded 4 mln t with sea transport accounting for 95% of imported and exported containerized cargo. 

China is the largest player here: in the reported period, 675,000 t of container cargo was delivered from China to Saint-Petersburg and the Leningrad Region (by all types of transport). Shipments to China hit 205,000 t. The share of Chinese containers was about 22% of total container turnover in Saint-Petersburg and the region. 

“The ports of Saint-Petersburg and the Leningrad Region are very significant points of supply chains when it comes to container supplies to the Russian Federation. Therefore, large logistic companies consider it strategically important to be represented in the North West region,” comments Andrey Shepelkevich, head of TELS Development Department. -  So, in September we opened TELS Group’s representative office in Saint-Petersburg.
