In January-November, 2013, the port of Klaipeda handled 39 mln t of cargo (-2.3%, year-on-year). According to the port materials, in November Klaipeda seaport and Butinges terminal handled 3.4 mln t of marine cargo: 2.6 mln t via Klaipeda port (-15.2%) and 0.8 mln t via Butinges terminal (-13.9%).
In November, transshipment of natural and chemical fertilizers totaled 512,700 (+12.7%), ore - 120,400 t (+213.4%), mineral resources and construction materials - 153,800 t (+51.1%), scrap metal - 57,100 (+72%), agricultural products - 382,900 (-23.5%).
Transshipment of containerized cargo climbed by 11.4% to 378,400 t.
Klaipeda State Seaport is the northernmost ice–free port on the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. It is the most important and biggest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea, land and railway routes from East to West. The port’s throughput (including Butinge terminal) made 43.761 mln t in 2012.
