Russian ports up in Rotterdam ranking

The Russian ports of Novorossiysk, Primorsk and St. Petersburg are the most eye catching new entrants in the Rotterdam ranking of the largest European ports. They are listed according to the new objective throughput criteria of the latest ´Rotterdam Port Statistics´
At the same time it is a correction. In fact, the ports should have been included earlier according to the former subjective criterion of importance to Rotterdam´. Novorossiysk, 6th with 81 million tonnes and Primorsk ranking eight  with 75 million tonnes are large outgoing ports for crude oil and oil products (especially heavy fuel oil and gas oil/diesel ) destined for Rotterdam. St. Petersburg, 11th with  60 million tonnes, is of growing importance as a container port for the feeder traffic to and from Rotterdam.
