Since July, Unifeeder average passage time has increased by 40% within this average, we have waiting times between 0 and 12 hours making it impossible to plan for the delays, the company said in its press release. In addition to delays of the cargo, the problem in the Kiel Kanal leads to a significantly increased cost level for Unifeeder. Schedules have to be recovered through increase in speed, increased costs in ports and through additional capacity.
Unless the situation improves very significantly and passage times revert to a normal level, Unifeeder may be forced to introduce a Cost Recovery Surcharge on all containers to/from the Baltic Sea and Scandinavian ports south or east of Gothenburg.
