Valentin M. Pashin, Hero of Russia, an outstanding scientist, naval architect and marine engineer, D. Engr., Professor, RAS academic, passed away on December 15, 2013 at the age of 77 years old, the Krylovsky State Research Centre said.
Valentin Pashin was born on July 25, 1937 in the Saratov region. He graduated from the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute. Pashin headed the Krylov Centre for over 22 years.
Since 2012 he was research supervisor, Deputy General Director of FSUE Krylovskiy State Research Centre. He also headed the Ship Design Department of St. Petersburg State Marine Technical University.
Pashin was a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Engineering, Professor, a Laureate of the State Prize of the USSR (1985) and the State Prize of the Russian Federation (2002) in the field of science and technology. He was the Academic A. Krylov award winner, the first Hero of Russia in St. Petersburg, Man of the Year 2000 for his contribution to the development of the domestic shipbuilding industry, member of the Institute of Marine Engineers in the UK and the European Engineering Council.
