MEB introduces sea ferries concepts for Black Sea services (graph)

Marine Engineering Bureau on December 16, 2013 unveiled four concepts of sea-going ferries for operation on the Black Sea ferry lines. The designs were presented at the meeting of the Work group set up for сoordination of scientific, technical and other support for implementation of the Federal target program "Development of civil marine engineering for 2009-2016", the naval architecture and marine engineering company said.

Project CNF08P: a concept of a Ro-Ro vessel for transport of autos, trains and passengers. The ferry will sail from the Port Kavkaz on routes: Russian Black Sea ports – Turkey-Bulgaria ports. The ferry loop could link all ferry terminals in Russia, Turkey, Bulgaria and Ukraine (as an alternative to congested roads along the coast).

CNF16B: a Ro-Ro car / passenger ferry with enhanced capacity for trucks, which could operate on the routes: Port Kavkaz-Turkey-Bulgaria;

CNF16A: a Ro-Ro car / passenger ferry for servicing on the route: Port of Sochi – Turkey ports;
CNF12M: car / passenger ferry for famous line – Port Kavkaz-Crimea.

Currently, local companies operate on the Black Sea lines aging fleet of 35 ferries with an average age of 28 years (as of Dec. 1, 2013). Service life according to safety requirements for this type of vessels is 25-35 years. So, in the next five year, nearly all these ferries should be decommissioned.
