On October 29, 2014 ballistic missile submarine Yuri Dolgorukiy of Russia’s Northern Fleet successfully launched an intercontinental ballistic missile Bulava from the Barents Sea to the Kura test site on Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula, press center of RF Ministry of Defence says.
According to the Ministry, the missile was launched from the submerged submarine at a location in the Barents Sea and hit the target at the Kura test site.
“It was the first operational test launch of Bulava in line with the program of combat training after Yuri Dolgorukiy joined the Northern Fleet. All previous launches were part of development testing,” the statement says.
Ballistic missile submarine Yuri Dolgorukiy was laid down in 1996 and launched in 2007.
The Borei class submarine of Project 955 was designed at St. Petersburg-based the Rubin Marine Equipment Design Bureau. Borey-class submarines are armed with 16 solid-fueled 8,000km range Bulava missiles with next-generation ABM shield-piercing capabilities and maneuverable warheads.
The sub length – 170m, beam – 13.5m, immersion depth – 450m, complement – 107.
