According to figures from Asoex, the Fruit Exporters Association of Chile, Chile exported 560,000 tons of fruit to Europe during the 2013-2014 season (1 September 2013-30 August 2014), 247,000 tons of which were admitted by the Netherlands. This equals a market share of 44%, Port of Rotterdam said in its press release.
Among other fruits, 64,000 tons of apples were shipped to the Netherlands, 69,000 tons of table grapes, 49,000 tons of avocado, 13,000 tons of kiwis, 9,000 tons of blueberries, 4,000 tons of limes and 1,200 tons of oranges and tangerines.
The figures were presented during the recent meeting of the Chilean fruit sector with the mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb, who, accompanied by a group of businessmen, gained insight into the reality of the Chilean fruit export sector, and was able to analyse the business opportunities and services that the Port of Rotterdam could offer the national fruit sector.
