Early on Thursday morning, the first boats in the Volvo Ocean Race reached Newport in the USA. First across the line was Dongfeng Race Team.
The leg from Brazil started on April 19. All the boats were very close together as they crossed the Equator. First to cross the Equator was Team SCA although shortly afterwards they lost the lead and never managed to regain it. First to reach the finishing line was Dongfeng Race Team, with Swede Martin Strömberg on board. This was something of a revenge for Dongfeng, who were forced to drop out of the last leg due to a broken mast in the Antarctic Ocean.
Dongfeng Race Team reached Newport, on the west coast of the USA, early on Thursday morning. Minutes afterwards, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing crossed the line and just under an hour later came Team Brunel. Team SCA brought up the rear.
