Supplies of fresh fruit from the Republic of South Africa via port Saint-Petersburg will grow by 30% to some 260,000 t in 2015, Vladimir Borisenko, Director General of Baltic Shipping (agent and coordinator of Refeer Alliance line in Saint-Petersburg), told IAA PortNews.
According to him, the season of 2015 which is to last from mid April till late October will see 30-35 calls with vessels carrying fruit.
Vladimir Borisenko says the vessels delivering fruit from the Republic of South Africa export ammonium nitrate from Russia. In 2015, the volume is expected to reach about 150,000 t this year.
Nyaniso Isaac Miti, Minister – Counsellor in charge of Agricultural Affairs at the South Africa Embassy in Russia, told about the interest of RSA in other segments of Russian market.
“We have obtained a permit from Russian authorities to bring fish and fish products. RSA also expects Russia to open its market for meet, milk and game meet from RSA,” he summarized.
Russia consumes about 12% of all fruit exported from RSA. This product accounts for 30% of Russia-RSA trade. In 2014, Russia imported 200,000 t of fruit from RSA.
