Detailed standards for training and certifying of MOU crewmembers should be developed within the framework IMO, press service of Makarov Training Center cites IMO Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu as saying during his visit to the Center’s Sea Survival Division.
IMO Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu highly praised the level of Makarov Training Center equipment and emphasized that high standards of safe operation at sea vessels additionally encourage young people to become seafarers.
The visit took place within the framework of the International conference "Maritime Education: Trends and Challenges of the 21st century" held in St. Petersburg on July 7, 2015 at Adm. Makarov State University. The event supported by the Russian Ministry of Transport, the Federal Agency of Sea and River Transport was arranged with the participation of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Makarov Training Center is one of the structural subdivisions of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping. MTC suggests professional educational courses for students and cadets of the University, crews of seacrafts, wide range of maritime and oil&gas industry specialists of Russia, CIS and foreign countries. As of today, Makarov Training Center numbers over 40 types of simulators at its two branches in Saint-Petersburg as well as in Murmansk and Arkhangelsk.
Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping was set up through reorganization of two large industry-focused higher educational institutions - St.-Petersburg State University of Waterway Communications (SPSUWC) and Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy (SMA) in the form of affiliation of the Academy to the University.
