All passengers of Vanino ferry service have been delivered to Sakhalin (Khabarovsk Territory), says press center of the Khabarovsk Territory Government. Vanino expects the arrival of 70 more persons who can be transported to Sakhalin by ferry.
The situation in Vanino was in the focus of several meetings of the regional emergencies committee headed by Anatoly Litvinchuk, Deputy Governor of the Khabarovsk Territory. The committee revealed a number of factors resulting in annual congestions in mid July. In particular, Sakhalin Shipping Company aware of the inflow of passengers does not increase the service capacity. Besides, no preliminary sale of tickets is provided.
This year the situation at the ferry terminal in Vanino was aggravated by the fierce storm which interrupted the service for several days. Hence the congestion of over a thousand of passengers waiting for a possibility to leave for Sakhalin. In response to requests of the Khabarovsk Territory authorities to help ease congestion of passengers and vehicles at the ferry crossing to Sakhalin the Russian Defense Ministry decided to provide the landing craft support. Large landing ship of the Pacific Fleet "Admiral Nevelskoy" helped transport the passengers for several days.
