Operational results of Volga Shipping Company in 9M’15

In January-September 2015, VSC vessels carried 4.7 mln t of cargo (-13%, year-on-year, to 0.68 mln t), the Company’s press center says.

Due to low water level at Volga and Don rivers and difficult economic situation in Russia, transportation of export cargoes fell by 0.73 mln t (-21%), mainly with the reduced transportation of metal and fertilizers.

Prompt redeployment of vessels to Russia’s southern districts and good yield of crops allowed the company fulfill its large export contracts and somewhat compensate for nonfulfillment of the plan. In the 9-month period, the company carried 1.7 mln t of grain, twice as much as in January-September 2014. 10 state-of-the-art vessels of Project RSD44 efficiently operate in the Southern Basin.

Domestic transportation has increased by 0.48 mln t (+2%) mostly due to increased transportation of break-stone from Karelian quarries which surged by 0.43 mln t (+94%, year-on-year) to 0.89 mln t.

In the reported period, the share of domestic transportation climbed by 6 percent points to 42%, or 2 mln t. Transportation of export cargo made 58%, or 2.7 mln t.

Volga Shipping OJSC is one of the biggest transport companies in Russia. It was founded in 1843. The company transports cargoes along rivers and lakes of the country. In 2014, Volga Shipping carried 6.3 mln t of cargo.

The Company is a part of VBTH – shipping division of Universal Cargo Logistics Holding, international transportation group consolidating a number of Russian railway, stevedoring and logistic companies (the majority stakeholder of VBTH). The division comprises North Western Shipping Company, V.F.Tanker, a number of shipbuilding and cruise assets.
