Vopak Vlaardingen has brought a new rail transfer station into operation. The official opening was in the hands of Cllr. Ruud de Vries, portfolio holder for Economic Affairs, Education and Organisation of the Municipality of Vlaardingen, and Eelco Hoekstra, CEO of Vopak.
The new rail transfer station expands the facilities for loading and unloading of wagons at the terminal. Rail transport has increased in recent years and demand for loading and unloading of wagons has risen. To be able to process more trains per day and be more flexible in serving customers, modernisation and expansion of the rail facilities at Vopak Vlaardingen was essential. With the new rail transfer station, which connects to three tracks, sixteen to twenty wagons can be unloaded or loaded within eight hours, including shunting time.
