Ningbo Zhoushan Port container throughput up by 5.1% in Q1 of 2016

According to “Production Express” of Ningbo Zhoushan Port Group, the port accomplished container throughput of 5,388,000 TEUs in the first quarter of this year, increased by 5.1% year on year, ranking the first in term of growth rate among world’s top 4 container ports.

With more severe and complicate situation for global trade and continuously sluggish shipping market in the first quarter this year,the growth rate of container throughput of major domestic and foreign container ports has dropped substantially. Among the world’s top 4 strongest ports in container throughput last year, Ningbo Zhoushan Port was the only one to reach growth rate of over 5%.

In face of the depressed market, Ningbo Zhoushan Port has taken such measures as strengthening communication, following closely and intensifying cooperation with key shipping companies to get through the difficulties since the beginning of this year. In the first qaurter, international transfer container volume increased by 10% year on year. Meanwhile, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port consolidated container volume of domestic branch lines and officially opened the first high-quality domestic branch shipping line on March 16th. The service quality of domestic branch lines was upgraded. Zhapu Line, Fuzhou Line and other main domestic branch lines gave powerful support. The port completed loaded foreign trade container volume for domestic branch lines of 160,000 TEUs.

The sea-railway intermodal container volume of Ningbo Zhoushan Port has been steadily increased. “Xiangyang-Ningbo Zhoushan Port” regular train successfully launched the first running in the first ten-day period of March . Fuyang-Ningbo Zhoushan Port Container Sea-railway Intermodal Transport business, which was operated in mode of special train with extra carriages, has realized unitized transport. At present, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has over 20 sea-railway intermodal lines.
