As of 1 August, Dr Wolfgang Hönemann has supported the Rotterdman port operations with the management of the central inland market of North Rhine Westphalia. Hönemann has acted in this role as a representative of the port and personal interface to shippers, forwarders, operators and carriers as well as to the industry, authorities and associations of the region. The further expansion of the relations of the region to Rotterdam and an improvement in the efficiency and throughput along the entire supply chain are the objectives of the activities of the board member who worked on a pro bono basis until 2016 and the Deputy President of the Federal Association of German Inland Shipping (BDB) in Duisburg from 1994 until 2007.
Hönemann looks back on a 35-year activity focusing on the area of inland shipping. He is switching from his role he held from 2012 to 2016 as Managing Director of Rhenus PartnerShip GmbH Co. KG in Duisburg and Rhenus Mierka Danube Shipping GmBH in Krems (Austria) to the port operations of Rotterdam. At Rhenus, he worked mainly in the operating business for the Danube and France. In his preceding roles as Managing Director of Wincanton GmbH, GB Intermodal in Mannheim (2008 to 2011) and Lehnkering Reederei GmbH in Duisburg (1989-2008), he focused on inland shipping and container logistics in the region and on the areas of bulk cargo and chemicals. He started his career from 1982 to 1989 as a division head and later Managing Director of the Federal Association of German Inland Shipping in Duisburg.
The Dortmund native, graduate economist and trained industrial business manager has been Commissioner for the Federal Republic of Germany with the Central Commission for Rhine Shipping (ZKR) in Strasbourg since 1996.
