TCSP Group’s 2018 throughput fell by 8% Y-o-Y to 13.04 million tonnes

Tuapse Sea Commercial Port (TSCP Group, part of UCL Holding) says its throughput in 2018 fell by 8%, year-on-year, to 13.04 million tonnes.

In the reporting period, transshipment oil products fell by 15.4% to 5.4 million tonnes. Transshipment of dry cargo totaled 7.6 million tonnes, which is similar to the result of 2017. 

The company says the decrease should be primarily attributed to reduction of cargoes delivered to the port by railway due to more intense passenger traffic on the North Caucasus Railway in summer period, emergency situation caused by the flood in the Tuapse District in October and repair of railway tunnel on the Belorechensk-Tuapse line in November-December 2018. 

The above mentioned factors had the highest impact on the annual transshipment of coal which totaled 2.62 million tonnes (-14.7%, year-on-year). External factors also affected the volume of grain transshipment which totaled 1.97 million tonnes (-8.5%).

Meanwhile, transshipment of ferrous metal achieved a record high level of 2.94 million tonnes (+18%). The upward trend is attributed to successful implementation of an investment project on expansion of the port’s capacity in the segment of ferrous metal — one of the key points of the long-term programme on the development of TCSP JSC.

Transshipment of fruits and vegetables was showing a consistent growth throughout the year to 80,000 tonnes, which is more the two times as high as the result of 2017.

The volume of exports, which forms the bulk of TSCP throughput, fell by 8.7%, yea-on-year, to 12.83 million tonnes. Exports account for 98.4% of the total throughput, imports – for 0.6%, short-sea traffic - 1%.

In 2018, TCSP handled 610 commercial ships (334 — dry cargo carriers, 276 — oil tankers) and 111,000 railcars.

Tuapse Sea Commercial Port (TCSP Group) is the major terminal operator at the Port of Tuapse, one of Russia’s largest ports. UCL Port comprises Sea Port St. Petersburg JSC, Container Terminal Saint Petersburg CJSC, Universal Handling Terminal LLC based in the North-West of Russia, and Taganrog Commercial Sea Port in the South. The fleet of TCSP’s cargo handling equipment numbers 28 portal cranes with capacity of 10 to 124 tonnes, 65 loaders and bulldozers. In 2018, the company handled 13.04 million tonnes of cargo.
