Iran ranked fifth in ME maritime safety in 2006
As a result of the strict supervisory measures taken by Iran’s Ports and Shipping Organization (PSO), its safety rating has been enhanced to the fifth rank among the similar organizations in the Middle East region countries, an official with the PSO said.
Safety, in the Ports and Shipping Organization has been boosted by 112 percent as compared with the year before, the Persian service of IRNA quoted Ali Jahandideh as saying on Monday.
Although moving to the fifth position is a positive achievement, more work is to be done to reach better results in the issue of safety, he commented.
Eleven major trade ports encompassing around 3,200 hectares of land, 21 kilometers of piers, some 110 million tons of cargo -loading and unloading- capacity in over 3,000 kilometers of water boundaries supervised and managed by the PSO explains the significance of the issue of safety in the organization, he further explained.
