Busan Port Authority (BPA, CEO NAM Ki-chang) stated on August 21 that it signed a cooperative MOU on logistics and IT with Xiamen Port Authority on August 20.
The MOU was about increasing the role of port in economy, exchanging information on advanced technology and facility operation, improving shipping conveniences, strengthening exchanges on cruise-related works, and technical and academic exchanges between people.
Mutual exchanges and cooperation are expected to increase as a result of the MOU.
The MOU was discussed when Party Secretary Hu Changsheng of Xiamen was visiting Busan Port, and BPA has been working to conclude an agreement to expand transshipment cargo hinterland area to South China region and conduct IT-related exchanges for port automation and green port.
Xiamen Port is the biggest port in the Southeastern region in China and the 15th busiest container port in the world, operating Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal (XOCT), the first automated terminal in China.
160,000 TEU is being handled between Busan Port and Xiamen Port annually.
NAM Ki-chan, CEO of BPA, said that “Through this MOU, Busan Port aims to strengthen the network with the Southeastern region in China and to move the cargo hinterland region from Northern China to Southern China and Southeast Asia.”
