United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) is exploring the possibilities offered by technologies in the sphere of electricity-powered shipping, IAA PortNews correspondent cites USC President Aleksey Rakhmanov as telling journalists in Moscow. “Transition to electric propulsion can prove to be more economically efficient than shifting to liquefied natural gas”, said USC President. According to him, that is also relevant to sea/river class ships.
As of today, USC is looking into construction of an electric ship in partnership with foreign companies. In particular, partnership with a Greek company is under consideration although negotiations have not come to a conclusion yet for technological and price reasons.
