New agreement signed for eye in the sky

EMSA and the European Space Agency (ESA) has signed an agreement for cooperation in maritime monitoring and surveillance. Under this programme, deliberate or accidental oil spills detected by satellite radar images generates an alert to EU coastal states and EMSA within 30 minutes. The CleanSeaNet system will begin operating in mid-April with receiving stations in Norway, Italy and the Azores from 2008.
