The third phase of Mobi Dick not to be built – Valentina Matvienko
The third phase of Mobi Dick LLC will not be built, St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matvienko told Tuesday at the meeting of St. Petersburg Government, Fontanka.Ru reports. The decision cancels the document according to which Mobi Dick received the plot of land in 2004. By May 15, the company should finalize all relations with the third parties. According to the Governor, negotiations with Mobi Dick lasted for 1.5 years. “The city exercised patience being open for a dialog but the company failed to fulfill its liabilities. The city resumed negotiations to persuade the company of the necessity to leave the plot needed for a large state-scale project. The company signed the agreement but applies to court. Their behavior is not adequate and we decide that the third phase is not to be built,” the Governor said.
The agreement on lease of a plot of land under investment conditions for construction of the third phase of Mobi Dick transshipment complex expired on October 31, 2006. According to the additional agreement, Mobi Dick LLC was to hand the plot over to a lessor (St. Petersburg) from November 1, 2006 till finalization of construction works at navigation pass C1 of St. Petersburg flood prevention complex. The additional agreement specified that contractual relations of Mobi Dick and St. Petersburg are not to be terminated. The plot of land is only to be temporarily excluded from technological process as it is needed for construction of the flood prevention complex. However, Mobi Dick LLC failed to fulfill its obligations.Mobi Dick LLC is owned by Finland-based Containerships Oy, engaged in shipping and terminal business. Container terminal in Kronshtadt, managed by Mobi Dick was put into operation in 2002. In June 2002, Mobi Dick commissioned the first phase of the terminal in Kronshtadt. The second phase was finalized in October 2005.
