Cargo turnover of Baltic ports up 5.4% through January-August
Cargo turnover of Baltic states’ ports amounted through 8 months of 2006 to over 93.6 million tons (+5.4% against year-on-year result of 88.803 million tons of cargo), RZhD-Partner reports. According to information provided by Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia, 43.5% of all cargo volume was transshipped by Latvian ports, 35.7% - Estonian ports, 20.7% - Lithuanian ports. Growth rates of Latvian ports was the lowest over the reported period – 1.1% or 456.6 thou tons to 40.758 million. Cargo turnover of Estonian ports grew by 7.7% or 2.397 million tons to 33.459 million, Lithuanian – by 11.2% or 1.95 million tons to 19.39 million. Port of Tallin is the leader as regards cargo turnover – 27.763 million tons (+5.4% against year-on-year result). The second one is the port of Ventspils, which handled 19.673 million tons of cargo (-2.2% against year-on-year result). The third one is the port of Riga – its cargo turnover amounted over the reported period to 17.625 million tons (+7.5% against year-on-year result).
