  3. From January 1, the Port of Rotterdam Authority will be led by three directors

From January 1, the Port of Rotterdam Authority will be led by three directors

The vacant position of chief commercial officer will be abolished. The responsibilities of the current four directors will be shared by the organisation’s three remaining ones.
In future, CEO Mr Hans Smits will control a number of commercial departments himself. Talking about the disappearance of a commercial director, Mr Smits said on Monday: “This will remove a decision-making layer from the organisation, as a result of which lines of communication will become shorter and the organisation can operate more decisively and more efficiently.''
Mr Smits said that the departure of former CCO Mr Ger van Tongeren in July this year and the coming departure of Mr Pieter Struijs in April next year gave cause for a renewed look at the organisation. As it turned out, the current organisational model no longer seemed to meet the needs of the phase that the Port Authority currently finds itself in.
Says Mr Smits about the new model: “We want to place responsibilities and jurisdictions as low in the organisation as possible. In addition, we want to ensure integral management while maintaining checks and balances, and offer talented people challenging positions.''
