Free port of Riga (Latvia) handled 21.695 million tons of cargo in January-October 2006 (+6.6% against year-on-year result), RZD-Partner reports. Its highest volumes fall on dry bulk cargo – 13.355 million tons (+9.5%, year-on-year) including 9.406 million tons of coal (+5.7%), 1.093 million tons of chemical cargo, mostly mineral fertilizers (-1.7%), and 1.049 million tons of wood chip (+9.3%). Transshipment of general cargo totaled 4.223 million tons (-20.3%) including 2.513 million tons of wood (-23.9%), 1.26 million tons of container cargo (+1.4%). Liquid bulk cargo totaled 4.118 million tons (+43.8%), mostly oil products – 4.067 million tons (+49%). In 2005, cargo turnover of the port of Riga was 24.429 million tons (+1.8% against 2004). The largest volumes were transshipped by Strek stevedoring company – 4.567 million tons (+24.8%, year-on-year), which is 21.1% of the port’s total throughput. Rigas Centralais terminals decreased its cargo turnover by 1.3% - to 4.059 million tons (18.7%), Lacon – by 19%, to 1.562 million tons (7.2%). Baltic Container terminal handled 1.343 million tons of cargo, BLB Baltijas Terminals – 1.228 million tons, Rinuzu stividors – 1.136 million tons.
