CMB makes US$50M on bulker sale

Belgian-based CMB’s bulk carrier owning subsidiary Bocimar International has sold the capesize shi Mineral Poterne for US$70m. CMB says the capital gain on the sale is about US$50m which will be recorded when the ship is delivered to its new owners, scheduled for March 2007.

CMB has also set up two joint venture agreements with Norwegian owner JB Ugland. The first involves three 33,000 dwt and two19,800 dwt chemical carrier newbuildings owned 50/50 by the two companies with delivery of the vessels scheduled for 2010 and 2011.

The second involves four 29,100 dwt bulk carrier newbuildings, two to be fully owned and two long-term time chartered with purchase options, with deliveries scheduled for 2008 and 2009. CMB has a 33% stake in the JV.
