Keel-laying of Sevastopol submarine at Admiralty Shipyards (Saint Petersburg)

Keel-laying of the project 677 Sevastopol submarine for Russian Navy has been carried out today at Admiralty Shipyards (Saint Petersburg). According to the reporter PortNews IAA, this submarine is to become the second ship in the series of vessels to be built at Admiralty Shipyards for RF Navy. The head submarine of the project – the Saint Petersburg submarine – is under manufacturer’s trial in the Baltic Sea. In 2007 it is to be delivered to RF Navy. Construction of the first ship of the series – the Kronshtadt submarine - was laid down at Admiralty Shipyards on July 28, 2005. Its delivery to RF Navy is scheduled for 2009. The Sevastopol submarine is to be delivered to the customer before 2010.

The length of the submarine is about 67 m, breadth - 7 m, draft – 6.5 m. The ship is equipped with six torpedo launchers. It may carry up to 18 ammunition units. Sea endurance ofthe ship is 45 days.

Admiralty Shipyards FSUE is the oldest Russia’s shipyard founded by Peter I on November 5, 1704. Modern Shipyards specialize in design, production and modernization of civil and naval vessels of various types. Over 2.6 thou ships and vessels have been built by the companies forming Admiralty Shipyards during three centuries of their existence.
