Cargo turnover of Latvian Railway down 9.6% in 10M06

Cargo turnover of Latvijas dzelzcels (Latvian Railway, LR) amounted in January-October 2006 to 41.164 million tons (-9.6% against year-on-year result), RZD-Partner reports.  The largest volumes fall on import transportation - 33.18 million tons (-10.5%) including 28.962 million tons going via Latvian ports (-12.3%). Over the reported period the railway transported 4.194 million tons of land transit cargo (-8.9%), internal transportation totaled 2.032 million tons (-7.3%), export transportation totaled 1.758 million tons (+4.8%) including 1.109 million tons of cargo transported via port stations (+32.7%). The largest specific share is that of oil and oil products - 14.907 million tons (-15.3%). The second one – coal - 12.523 million tons (-4.2%), then come mineral fertilizers - 4.342 million tons (-25.9%). In October LR transported 3.758 million tons of cargo (-20.9% against year-on-year result). Transportation of coal totaled 1.197 million tons (-24.5%), oil and oil products - 1.053 million tons (-36.5%). Decrease of the results is attributed to changes at the market of transit transportation including decrease of export from Russia, sharp fall of oil prices at global market. In 2005 cargo turnover of LR totaled 54.861 million tons, which was a record result for the company (+7.4%).
