Cargo turnover of Vostochny port down 0.3% in 10M06

Cargo turnover of Vostochny port amounted in January-October 2006 to 17 167.3 thou tons (-0.3% against year-on-year result), Rosmorport FSUE told PortNews IAA. Transshipment of general cargo amounted over the reported period to 2 388.0 thou tons (-14.5% year-on-year) including 2 183.0 thou tons of container turnover (-4.5%), 65.6 thou tons of metal transshipment (-28.3%), 86.9 thou tons of pipe transshipment (4.1 times less as compared with year-on-year result). Transshipment of machines and equipment grew 3-fold to 2.2 thou tons. Transshipment of timber totaled 318.9 thou tons (+67.7%), dry bulk cargo – 14 439.1 thou tons (+2.4%), including coal and coke amounting to 13 648.5 thou tons (+7.7%), potassium salt – 724.5 thou tons (-12%). Transshipment of ore fell 18.7-fold to 30.1 thou tons. Transshipment of powdered supplies fell 6.4-fold to 21.3 thou tons.

Vostochnyj port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters. length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 15 cargo berths. a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
